Privacy
MathVox runs entirely in your web browser. The equations you enter are never sent to us or to anyone else. There's no account, no sign-in, no tracking, no ads and no cookies.

What stays on your device
To save you retyping, your browser remembers a few things in its own storage on your computer:
- the last equation you entered
- your output format, Description style and any "Say what it means" choices
- your Dark Mode and Dyslexia-Friendly Font settings
Nobody else can see these. Clear removes the saved equation. To remove everything, clear this site's data in your browser's settings. If your browser blocks storage (some private windows do), MathVox still works; it just won't remember anything next time.
Shareable links
The link MathVox gives you contains the equation itself, after the # sign. Browsers don't send that part to the website when the link is opened, so the equation still doesn't reach us. But anyone you send the link to can read the equation, and the link may be kept in your browser history.
Copying
MathVox only writes to your clipboard when you select a Copy button, and it never reads your clipboard.
Read Equation Aloud
Read Aloud uses the voices built into your browser. Most voices run on your own device. Some browsers also offer online voices; if your browser uses one, the text of the description is sent to that browser's speech service under its own privacy terms. Your computer's system voices work offline.
Drawing an equation by hand
Handwriting is recognized on your own device. The first time you open the Draw tab, your browser downloads the recognition model (about 17 MB) from MathVox's own site and keeps it in its cache. Your drawings are never uploaded or saved.
Hosting
MathVox is a static website hosted on Vercel. As with any website, the host receives the basic technical details every browser sends when it loads a page, such as your IP address and browser type. MathVox doesn't add analytics or tracking on top of that. Everything it uses (the equation editor, speech rules, fonts, the handwriting model) is served from its own site, not from outside services.
Students and FERPA
Because MathVox doesn't collect, store or transmit what you enter, it holds no student records or other personal information. There is nothing to request, correct or delete.
